• 1965, the Mexican Government introduced the Mexico Border
Industrialization Program. This global sharing program brought
forth the concept known as Maquiladora. To many companies
in the United States, this offered an opportunity to stay
competitive in the global economy by offering low cost,
labor intensive operations located in Mexico with a parent
company located in the United States.
• The Zenith Corporation was among one
of the first companies to take advantage of this opportunity.
Construction of facilities in Matamoros, Mexico and Brownsville,
Texas began in 1970. By 1971, the Matamoros facility, Electro
Partes, was assembling electron emitters for Zenith televisions.
Since its inception, Electro Partes de Matamoros has successfully
supplied millions of electron emitters and electronic components
for the color television and computer monitor industry.
